Anyone 65 years of age or older; or anyone who is MTA certified Permanent Disabled.

What are the benefits of purchasing a card?

The card may hold multiple passes and stored value at the same time, eliminating the need to carry cash for your trips. It is reusable, and much sturdier compared to a paper magnetic ticket. If lost, damaged or stolen; your balance is protected minus a small replacement fee. You may load a 31-Day Pass at any time, at any ticket vending machine; eliminating a trip to the Transit Store. While supplies last, the card costs $2.00 and comes pre loaded with $2.00 transit value.

Where may I purchase a Reduced Fare CharmCard®?

At the MTA Reduced Fare Certification Office. You must be present and provide government photo identification verifying you are age 65 or older for Senior status; or bring your MTA certified Permanent Disability card. The CharmCard may be purchased for $2.00 with $2.00 pre-loaded, at the Reduced Fare Certification Office, Monday - Thursday 8:30 am - 4:30 pm located at 6 St. Paul St., 1st Floor Lobby, Baltimore, MD 21202.

Cards will also be sold on a limited basis at Senior Centers. To view the date, time and location of sales click on ‘Transit Events’.

Where may I use my Reduced Fare CharmCard®?

The Reduced Fare CharmCard® for Seniors can may be used to pay reduced fares on MTA Local Bus, Light Rail, and Metro Subway. It can also be used in the Washington, D.C. metro area anywhere, SmarTrip® is displayed.

You may load a 1-Day Pass on the Local Bus farebox or at any ticket vending machine. You may load a 31-Day Pass at any ticket vending machine.

What should I do if my Reduced Fare CharmCard® is lost, damaged or stolen?

Call 1-888-SMARTRIP (1-888-762-7874) to report a lost, damaged or stolen card. We will refund the remaining value on your card at the time reported minus a card replacement fee. A new card will be sent to you in the mail.

When you purchase a Reduced Fare CharmCard®, we will automatically register the card for you.

Can I use my 1-day or 31-day pass in Washington, D.C.?

No. Passes are only valid for use in the region in which they are purchased. However, the Reduced Fare CharmCard® can store multiple passes from different regions along with stored value.
